US Forest Service has just released a beautiful introductory guide to the US’s native bees. It’s got loads of info, and really gorgeous illustrations. It’s also totally free.

A great list of recipes for making laundry soap at home. I (the webmaster) have been using a variant of one of the powder recipes for several months, and it works better than most commercial detergents, and is somewhat cheaper.
Here’s what I’ve been using
1 cup Washing Soda
1 cup Borax
1/3-2/3 bar of Fels-naptha or Dr. Bronner’s bar soap, chopped fine.
several tablespoons of baking soda (as an anti-caking agent while chopping up the soap in a little food processor).
I use about 2 tablespoons per full washer.
